MagTek and Star Micronics Integrate Security and Digital Tokens for Retail Hardware

MagTek, a specialist in secure payment technology, and Star Micronics, focused on POS and printing solutions, have announced a new technology breakthrough.

The system utilizes MagTek's Qwantum Multi-Factor Authentication (QMFA) Digital Tokens to provide secure digital access and control over cash drawers, printers, and payment peripherals. This new solution replaces traditional passwords and physical keys with digital, time-bound tokens, enhancing security and control.

The technology allows for a unified point-of-sale (POS) application experience across various device types, including desktops, mobile devices, and kiosks. Digital tokens can authorize actions such as processing payments, initiating print jobs, opening cash drawers, or enabling manager overrides, creating a more flexible and centrally managed retail environment.

Star Micronics' printer and cash drawer technology supports a shift from device-centric control to cloud-based application workflows. This reduces reliance on local hardware layers and lowers operational costs for businesses. The companies plan to showcase the solution at the RSPA's RetailNOW event in Las Vegas from July 26-28, 2026.
