Maire Tecnimont awarded contract for large fertilizer complex in Argentina

MILAN, July 22, 2026 – Maire Tecnimont announced today that its subsidiary, Tecnimont (Integrated E&C Solutions), has been awarded a contract by Fértil Pampa S.A.U. for the construction of a large-scale fertilizer complex in Argentina. The facility, located in the Bahía Blanca Industrial Complex in the Buenos Aires Province, will feature an ammonia plant and two parallel urea trains.

With a combined annual production capacity of 2.1 million tons of granular urea, the complex will become the largest urea plant in Latin America once completed in approximately 41 months. The site's proximity to Pampa Energia's existing power generation assets provides direct access to essential infrastructure, including gas pipelines, high-voltage transmission lines, and an export port.

Tecnimont's responsibilities encompass the full scope of engineering, procurement, commissioning, and start-up activities. Nextchem has been selected as the technology provider, utilizing Stamicarbon's urea melt and granulation licensing technologies and Process Design Packages (PDP). KT Tech will supply the primary reformer for syngas production, and KBR will provide ammonia technology.

The total contract value is approximately €1.3 billion, with €140 million allocated to Nextchem's technology package, including licenses, design packages, and proprietary equipment. Argentinean company SACDE S.A. will be responsible for the construction phase of the project.

This award represents Maire Tecnimont's first significant contract in Argentina, contributing to the group’s geographical diversification. The project is expected to create over 3,500 direct jobs at its peak construction phase, fostering local employment and strengthening Argentina's fertilizer production capabilities.
