The company stated it had "identified the cause" approximately 15 minutes later and deployed a fix by 12:16 p.m. A separate report noted a brief period of "elevated errors on requests to Claude Sonnet 5" just after noon.
OpenAI, concurrently, reported "elevated errors across ChatGPT and Codex" resulting in "degraded performance" as of 10:43 a.m. Thursday morning. A mitigation put in place a little over half an hour later led to the issue being marked as "resolved" by 12:55 p.m.
The precise cause for the simultaneous downtime across these competing platforms remains unclear. However, the event highlights the vulnerability of cloud-based AI services to widespread disruptions.
