Malteser Survey: Loneliness Remains a Major Societal Problem in Germany

Munich – More than three years after the initial lockdown, the societal problem of loneliness in Germany is more acute than ever, according to a new survey released by Malteser.

The report indicates that nearly nine out of ten Germans view loneliness as a significant societal issue. Malteser, one of Germany's largest providers of social and healthcare services and disaster relief, emphasizes that loneliness affects all segments of the population, not just the elderly or marginalized.

The survey also suggests that many Germans anticipate increased poverty and loneliness in the future. The organization offers a range of volunteer services and support initiatives aimed at alleviating loneliness and fostering social cohesion.

Malteser has been active in Germany for over 150 years, employing and engaging more than 50,000 individuals through volunteer work. The organization operates in the fields of social services, healthcare, hospitals, youth activities, and disaster preparedness.
