Malteser to take full responsibility for planned health campus in Flensburg

Malteser Deutschland will assume full responsibility for the planned Fördeklinikum in Flensburg, significantly increasing its commitment to medical care provision. This decision is part of a larger restructuring with Evangelisch-Lutherische Diakonissenanstalt zu Flensburg (Diako).

The Malteser organization will take sole ownership of the new Fördeklinikum hospital project. Additionally, pending legal reviews, Malteser will acquire Diako's shares in its existing hospital by March 1, 2026. This arrangement allows both entities to concentrate their resources on their respective core projects.

The timeline for the realization of the Fördeklinikum, slated for completion by 2030, remains unchanged. The ecumenical health campus, which includes Diako's psychiatric services, a daycare facility, and an educational center, will continue as a joint venture. Both existing hospitals will maintain close collaboration until the move to the new facility.

Ulf Reermann, CEO of Malteser Deutschland, highlighted the move as a crucial step for the future of the clinic, emphasizing patient focus and continued progress. Pastor Dirk Outzen of Diako's board thanked staff and explained the restructuring is necessary to secure future economic and health policy conditions, while Diako will refocus on elderly care and psychiatric services.
