MAN Engines expands six-cylinder engine platform for yachts

MAN Engines has launched its new MAN i6X engine generation, targeting the yacht and sport fishing boat markets. This new 12.4-litre in-line six-cylinder engine expands the company's established platform into a higher power class, offering up to 1,000 horsepower (735 kW).

The engine is based on the proven MAN D2676 platform and shares components with existing MAN i6 series engines. The development focused on enhancing performance, dynamic response, and fuel efficiency. The MAN i6X is designed for rapid torque delivery, reaching a maximum of 3,250 Nm, ensuring agile acceleration and immediate propulsion, particularly at lower speeds crucial for maneuvering.

A key feature is a newly developed single-turbocharger system that delivers high power output while simplifying the design and reducing weight compared to multi-stage systems. Improved thermal management, including advanced intercooling and demand-driven oil cooling, ensures stable operation under high loads.

The MAN i6X will meet IMO Tier II, EPA Tier III, and EU Recreational Craft Directive 2013/53/EU emissions standards. MAN Engines plans to unveil the engine at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2026, with availability expected from the first quarter of 2028. The engine boasts a power-to-weight ratio of approximately 0.8 hp/kg and maintains nearly identical dimensions to the MAN i6, facilitating integration into existing vessel designs.
