Manchester launches gigabit services in first buildings
Hyperoptic has activated gigabit broadband services in two Greater Manchester developments, bringing the UK's fastest consumer internet speeds to the region.

Hyperoptic, a UK provider of fibre-to-the-home broadband, has activated gigabit broadband services in two developments in Greater Manchester. The switch-on in Sovereign Point and Imperial Point (Salford Quays) provides residents with access to 1 Gigabit-per-second (1,000Mbps) internet speeds, among the fastest available for consumers in the UK.
The introduction of gigabit speeds marks a new phase in future-proofing the city's digital infrastructure. Manchester City Council has welcomed Hyperoptic's investment as part of the company's "hyper-city" initiative.
With approximately forty further developments undergoing installation, Hyperoptic aims to expand its network across Greater Manchester, ensuring residents in apartment blocks have access to advanced fibre connectivity.
Manchester City Councillor Kevin Peel, a proponent for improved broadband speeds, stated that while Manchester is recognized for its digital sector, inadequate broadband has hindered progress. He noted that thousands of residents can now access the fastest internet speeds through Hyperoptic's service.
Hyperoptic focuses on delivering its service to multi-dwelling units based on demand, collaborating with building owners and managers to deploy its fibre infrastructure after sufficient resident interest is registered.
