Marine Biological Laboratory Appoints Nicole A. Theodosiou as Director of Education
Nicole A. Theodosiou, Ph.D., has been appointed the new Burroughs Wellcome Director of Education at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL). She joins the institution on September 8, bringing over two decades of experience in science education and academic leadership.
Woods Hole, Massachusetts – The Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) has appointed Nicole A. Theodosiou, Ph.D., as its next Burroughs Wellcome Director of Education. Dr. Theodosiou will join the MBL on September 8, bringing more than two decades of experience in science education, academic leadership, and program development.
Most recently, Theodosiou served in leadership roles at Union College in Schenectady, New York, focusing on curriculum innovation, faculty development, and undergraduate STEM education. She has also held positions such as Special Projects Director for Initiatives in Pedagogy & Course Design and led the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Inclusive Excellence Initiative.
In her new role at MBL, Dr. Theodosiou will oversee the institution's educational programs. This includes its Advanced Research Training Courses (ARTCs), undergraduate and high school programs, and other initiatives aimed at advancing biological discovery through research and education.
Theodosiou has a long-standing connection to the MBL, having participated in its courses and collaborated with its resources. She expressed that the MBL's educational ecosystem is "unparalleled" and its tradition of learning by doing aligns with her educational philosophy.
Dr. Theodosiou earned her Ph.D. in Genetics from Yale University and holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Swarthmore College. Her appointment is expected to enhance MBL's educational impact and its training of future scientists.
