Marissa Mayer's Dazzle AI Uses Photo Roll for Personal Assistant

Former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has launched a new artificial intelligence assistant named Dazzle. In a departure from many competing services that analyze emails, calendars, and purchase histories, Dazzle exclusively draws context from a user's photo roll to build a personal profile.

Mayer posits that photos are an underappreciated source of information, arguing that a camera roll can reveal more about a user's hobbies, interests, food and style preferences, and social circles than traditional text-based apps. Dazzle claims to identify details such as skiing habits, recent travel destinations, and children's interests based on visual data.

Mayer's previous startup, Sunshine, launched an AI-powered photo-sharing tool called Shine in 2024. While Shine faced criticism for its design and struggled with user adoption, Dazzle's novel approach aims to create a more personalized and comprehensive assistant experience by leveraging visual data.

Dazzle secured $8 million in seed funding in December 2025. The company seeks to differentiate itself in the market by focusing on visual data, often perceived merely as a repository for personal memories, but which Mayer believes contains deep insights into a user's life.
