Maritime intelligence startup Quartermaster raises $140M

Arlington, Virginia-based startup Quartermaster has announced the closure of a $140 million Series B funding round. The investment was led by software-focused venture capital firm Insight Partners, with participation from new investor Overmatch Ventures and existing backers, including First Round Capital.

Founder and CEO Neil Sobin stated that the round was preempted by significant market interest, partly driven by geopolitical events such as the war in Iran and the resulting disruptions to global shipping. These events, according to Sobin, have increased conviction in the company's core mission.

Approximately $100 million of the Series B came from equity investment, while the remaining $40 million was raised through debt financing. This funding follows a $43 million Series A round closed by Quartermaster in May.

Quartermaster develops technology utilizing weather-hardened sensors to collect data and generate intelligence on maritime activity. The company aims to provide real-time awareness of what it terms "the largest blind spot on Earth," improving operational decision-making for entities involved in the maritime industry.
