Markel Appoints Josephine Stroud and Jenny McFarlane to London Marine & Energy Liability Team
Markel Insurance has appointed Josephine Stroud as Head of Energy Liability and Jenny McFarlane as Senior Underwriter – Marine & Energy Liability in London.

Markel Insurance has bolstered its Marine & Energy Liability underwriting team in London with the appointments of Josephine Stroud as Head of Energy Liability and Jenny McFarlane as Senior Underwriter – Marine & Energy Liability.
These appointments follow the establishment of Markel's new Marine Transportation business in its London Market operations, consolidating areas such as Hull & Hull War, MECO, Marine & Energy Liabilities (M&E), and Transport & Logistics. This initiative aims to provide brokers with enhanced access to underwriting expertise across these portfolios.
In her new role, Stroud will oversee underwriting for multi-line, cross-class facilities, working alongside Rhys O'Neill, Head of Marine Liability. McFarlane will focus on supporting the strategic development and evolution of the Marine & Energy Liability product offering. Both will report to Grant Smith, who leads the Marine Transportation business.
Stroud brings over 18 years of liability broking and underwriting experience, previously holding positions at Willis Towers Watson and AXA XL, where she managed underwriting for clients in the oil and gas sector and energy transition. McFarlane joins from Tokio Marine HCC International, bringing more than eight years of experience in Marine & Energy Liability. The company stated that these hires enhance its capacity to support clients navigating complex risks in the current volatile market.
