His career includes pastoral roles in the Midwest and New England, alongside maintaining his family's agricultural heritage in Minnesota. Hromatko earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota in 1969 and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Ministry from Meadville Theological School in 1971 and 1973, respectively. He was ordained into the ministry in 1973 at Oaklandon Universalist Church, affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association. His pastoral journey began in 1972 as a student minister in Illinois, followed by service in Indiana and Massachusetts throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Beyond his congregational duties, Hromatko has participated in broader community and social justice initiatives. He notably organized and coordinated tours for the Chicago Children's Choir, an experience he cites for its scale and cultural impact. He has also contributed to advocacy groups focused on religious and reproductive rights. Hromatko has also authored theological works, co-editing "Appeal of the Irreligious" and contributing to the New Encyclopedia of Unbelief. Since 1990, he has served as a speaker for Tri-State Unitarian Universalist Congregations across Minnesota, South Dakota, and Iowa. He also manages his family's Century Farm, established in 1911, in Minnesota. Hromatko's career has been marked by various accolades, including the Entenmann Ohanian Award in 1975 and recognition for 50 years of ministry in 2023.
