Marvel's superhero film Avengers 4: Endgame returned to Chinese cinemas for a re-release during the Mid-Autumn Festival, surpassing 100 million yuan in box office revenue. The film ranked as the day's top earner.
China's box office revenue for the 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival surpassed 100 million yuan (approximately $13.7 million USD) by Sunday, September 25th. The surge in ticket sales was driven by the re-release of Marvel's 2019 hit film, Avengers 4: Endgame – Enhanced Edition.
Premiering alongside the Marvel blockbuster were "Welcome to Long Restaurant" and the Chinese film "The Legend of the Eight Immortals." Avengers 4: Endgame – Enhanced Edition earned 35.87 million yuan (approximately $4.6 million USD) in ticket sales, making it the highest-grossing film of the day.
The Enhanced Edition of Avengers 4: Endgame includes approximately four minutes of new content compared to the original 2019 release, bringing its total runtime to 185 minutes. This marks the first time the film has screened in mainland China in seven years since its initial 2019 debut. The original film was then the highest-grossing foreign film in China's history, earning 4.27 billion yuan (approximately $580 million USD).
The re-release is available in IMAX, Dolby Cinema, CINITY, and China Giant Screen formats, with options for both 2D and 3D viewing. Cinema operators hope the re-release will spur audience engagement and discussion within the film industry.
