material.one digital sampling targets Volkswagen Group suppliers
material.one AG has launched a digital sampling platform aimed at Volkswagen Group suppliers. The solution seeks to streamline the approval process for automotive components.

German technology firm material.one AG has introduced a digital sampling platform specifically for suppliers to the Volkswagen Group. This new solution aims to streamline the complex product approval process and enhance collaboration within the automotive supply chain.
Within the Volkswagen Group's automotive manufacturing ecosystem, suppliers are required to undergo a rigorous sampling process for each component before it can be integrated into a vehicle. Historically, this process has been fragmented, involving multiple stakeholders such as the Volkswagen Group, Tier 1 suppliers, sub-suppliers, testing laboratories, and internal departments. The reliance on disparate systems, documents, and emails has often led to inefficiencies and delays in information gathering and coordination.
The material.one platform provides a centralized digital solution for managing requirements, test plans, material information, results, and approval data. It allows various stakeholders to engage directly on the platform, reducing the need for manual data collection and repetitive processing. The platform also facilitates collaboration with external testing laboratories and subcontractors, who receive digital test plans and can input their findings directly into the system.
The company highlights that this digital approach enhances the security and traceability of information sharing. All stakeholders receive role-specific information directly within the process, simplifying documentation and approval. This aligns with modern automotive industry requirements for production process and product approvals. The platform, operational since June, is expected to accelerate inefficient manual workflows and reduce coordination costs for suppliers.
