Materna Opens New Office in Koblenz for Defence and Digital Sovereignty
IT service provider Materna has opened a new location in Koblenz to enhance its collaboration with the German armed forces and public administration.
IT service provider Materna Information & Communications SE officially opened its new office in Koblenz on May 18, 2026. The facility aims to strengthen the company's cooperation with key entities in the German armed forces (Bundeswehr) and public administration, supporting their digitalization projects on-site.
"The geopolitical shift is also a digital task," stated Michael Hagedorn, CEO of Materna Group, during the opening. He emphasized the need for reliable digital solutions that function under pressure and noted the company's investment in these capabilities.
The Koblenz office will employ 23 staff members dedicated to developing and operating solutions for security-critical applications. These include situational awareness systems, protected communication channels, and digital command and logistics processes. The location was chosen due to its proximity to central Bundeswehr and administrative institutions.
Ulrich Bötzel, Senior Vice President Defence, highlighted that the Koblenz site will focus on "operational responsibility" and developing solutions that function even in crisis situations. Major General (ret.) Dr. Michael Färber spoke at the event about the importance of digital sovereignty for modern defense structures and the need for interoperable and robust systems.
