Materna opens office in Koblenz to support defense and digital sovereignty
IT services firm Materna has launched a new location in Koblenz to provide on-site support for German defense and public sector digital infrastructure projects.
Materna Information & Communications SE officially opened a new site in Koblenz on May 18, 2026. The move aims to facilitate closer operational collaboration with key clients, including the German Armed Forces and various public administration entities.
The Koblenz facility will house 23 staff members tasked with developing and maintaining solutions for security-related environments. Core development areas include data-driven situational awareness tools, secure communication platforms, and digital systems for command and control. The company selected Koblenz specifically to maintain proximity to major Bundeswehr and administrative infrastructure, allowing for faster implementation of complex digital projects.
CEO Michael Hagedorn stated that current security policy requires robust digital architectures that remain functional during crises. The office will operate under the oversight of Ulrich Bötzel, Senior Vice President of Defence, who emphasizes the need for systems that provide resilience in time-critical situations.
This expansion follows a period of growth for the Dortmund-based company, which reported group turnover of approximately 795 million euros in 2025. The new site represents an effort to align technical resources with the evolving requirements of public sector digital sovereignty.
