Matkahuolto integrates travel chains and international routes into app

Matkahuolto has expanded its mobile application's functionality to cover international travel chains. The updated travel app now allows for the planning and purchasing of tickets for journeys across Finland's borders in a single transaction, combining connections from various modes of transport from land to sea.

The update enables users to buy tickets for, among others, Viking Line's ferry services to Tallinn and Stockholm. This extends the service's coverage beyond domestic long-distance buses and trains and local transport services, such as Föli buses and Nysse trams, to an international level.

According to Matkahuolto, last-minute travel and journeys comprising multiple connections have become more common. The app aims to address this need by offering a centralized solution for managing complex travel chains and purchasing tickets.

Petri Lindqvist, Director of Matkahuolto's Travel Services, emphasizes that the app responds to a changing travel culture where planning time has decreased. Minna Tuorila, Commercial Director at Viking Line, adds that the development of digital solutions supports smoother travel and the integration of travel chains.

The app's goal is to simplify travel for passengers by consolidating the planning and ticket purchasing for journeys that combine different modes of transport. Matkahuolto has developed the service to meet the needs of Finnish travelers in particular, drawing on over 90 years of experience in passenger services.
