Matkahuolto Procures Environmentally Standardized Workwear
Matkahuolto has updated its production staff's workwear with Fristads' environmentally standardized products. The procurement is part of the company's emissions reduction targets.
Matkahuolto has implemented new, durable, and environmentally standardized workwear for its production operations. The procurement was conducted as part of the company's broader sustainability program and emissions reduction targets, which have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
The company's Chief Sustainability Officer, Jaana Korkiakoski, emphasized that the textile industry, alongside logistics, is a significant polluter. "In addition to transport, a large portion of our emissions originates from procurement, making it crucial for environmental responsibility and sustainable development to be integrated into our purchasing decisions," Korkiakoski stated.
The new workwear was selected from Fristads' Green collection. Matkahuolto reports that this choice saved an estimated over 7 million liters of water and 1,300 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions compared to more traditional alternatives. Fristads products feature an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) based on the ISO 14025 standard.
The company aims to halve its value chain emissions by 2030. In addition to the workwear update, Matkahuolto is implementing over 40 other measures in line with its climate roadmap.
