Maxon's Cinema 4D software played a significant role in the creation of visual effects for Marvel's Iron Man 2. New York-based Perception and Venice, California-based Pixel Liberation Front (PLF) both employed Cinema 4D alongside Adobe's After Effects to produce futuristic gadgets and other visual elements.

Perception was initially tasked with delivering a fully animated video sequence for a scene where Tony Stark delivers a keynote address. This sequence was projected onto a 70-foot screen during the Stark Expo. To create seamless transitions within the video, Perception's artists constructed a metal sheet in Cinema 4D and animated individual squares to rotate.

Perception ultimately contributed over 125 shots within a four-month period. Their work encompassed a range of visual effects, including vintage logo animations, mock broadcast packages, and futuristic interfaces for various devices belonging to Tony Stark, such as his smartphone, coffee table, bedroom mirror, and television screens.

The interface for Stark's phone, for example, blended 2D elements created in After Effects with 3D animation from Cinema 4D. The device Robert Downey Jr. interacts with was rendered in Cinema 4D to ensure its complexity and animation flexibility, according to the visual effects team.
