Maxon Offers Redshift Rendering Software via Subscription
Software company Maxon has announced that its Redshift GPU rendering product is now available as a subscription. The move away from perpetual licenses supports ongoing development and compatibility maintenance.

Maxon, a developer of professional software solutions for motion graphics and visual effects artists, announced in August 2021 that its Redshift GPU rendering software is now available on a subscription basis. This change affects users of popular 3D applications including Cinema 4D, Autodesk Maya, 3ds Max, Houdini, Katana, and Blender.
The subscription model is intended to support ongoing development of Redshift, ensuring compatibility with various hardware platforms like Nvidia CUDA, Apple Metal, and Apple Silicon. Maxon stated that the software's performance is dependent on third-party hardware and software, necessitating continuous updates and optimizations by the development team to maintain stability and compatibility with the latest drivers and host applications.
Maxon has discontinued the sale of perpetual licenses. The subscription pricing is structured to be comparable to the former annual maintenance costs. Existing customers with current annual maintenance agreements can renew them through August 31, 2023, and these will continue to be serviced. Team subscriptions and floating license options are also available for larger workgroups.
The company believes this subscription approach will provide the best customer experience by enabling all users to access the latest versions and features of Redshift.
