Maxon Software Used for Visual Effects in Ghost in the Shell

Visual effects studio Territory Studio utilized Maxon software to create futuristic holograms and cityscapes for the 2017 film Ghost in the Shell. The company tackled the challenge of realizing the elaborate holographic technologies featured in the movie and developing 3D assets for street scenes and cityscape shots, aligning with director Rupert Sanders' vision.

The project was led by Peter Eszenyi, Creative Lead at Territory, who managed a core team of five that expanded to 15 during the seven-month production. Their task was to conceptualize the look and function of the holograms, defining how information such as video, text, and maps would be displayed and transition between different screens.

Working with an existing library of Ghost in the Shell anime material and the director's own ideas, the team was encouraged to develop fresh concepts. They collaborated directly with VFX Supervisor Guillaume Rocheron, who interfaced with director Sanders. While initial stages involved referencing the anime, the emphasis shifted towards the director's interpretation as the project evolved.

Territory Studio is recognized for its contributions to high-quality visual effects in films, commercials and other productions. Their involvement in Ghost in the Shell highlights the capabilities of Maxon's software in supporting demanding and creative digital design work.
