McDonald's Unveils New Restaurant Concept in Chicago

McDonald's has unveiled a new restaurant concept at a warehouse facility on Chicago's South Side. The prototype restaurant features glass walls that allow customers to see directly into the kitchen operations, including the fry station and espresso bar.

The design eliminates the traditional front counter, replacing it with a single ordering window and temperature-controlled lockers for customer pickup. A separate pickup area with lockers is designated for delivery drivers. This overhaul aims to streamline the ordering and pickup process.

Internally, kitchen space has been reconfigured, with approximately 40% dedicated to beverage and dessert preparation. Equipment is fitted with sensors that notify management when maintenance, such as fryer oil changes, is needed, enhancing operational efficiency and safety.

This "McDonald's Next" concept is part of a broader strategy expected to be rolled out to franchisees for remodels or new locations. It represents a significant shift in the restaurant's layout and operational focus, emphasizing transparency and efficiency.
