MDT Introduces Low-Power Biaxial Magnetic Switch IC

MultiDimension Technology (MDT), a provider of magnetic sensors, has introduced the TMR1228D, a biaxial magnetic switch integrated circuit. The device is designed for applications requiring continuous magnetic field detection and low power consumption, such as smart metering and motion sensing.

The TMR1228D integrates high-sensitivity TMR sensing elements with CMOS signal processing circuitry. It converts magnetic field variations into precise digital output signals. The circuit achieves a power consumption of only 1.5 microamperes per axis, enabling continuous sensing without intermittent sampling and improving system responsiveness and reliability.

The chip features independent detection channels for the X and Y axes, with separate outputs. It also supports industry-standard A/B quadrature signals for detecting rotary and linear position, speed, and direction. This simplifies the design of motion sensing systems.

With operating and release points of ±5 gauss, the TMR1228D allows for the use of smaller magnets and larger air gaps. MDT also offers the TMR1222D model with a ±17 gauss threshold for broader design flexibility. It is particularly suited for battery-powered and continuously operating devices like water meters and encoders.
