MDT releases milliwatt-level dual-axis magnetic switch integrated circuit
MultiDimension Technology (MDT) has launched the TMR1228D, an integrated circuit that continuously detects magnetic fields with microampere-level power consumption.

MDT Introduces TMR1228D Dual-Axis Magnetic Switch IC
MultiDimension Technology (MDT), a provider of magnetic sensors, has unveiled the TMR1228D. This dual-axis, continuously operating magnetic switch IC is designed for low-power applications, consuming power at the microampere level.
The device features a sensitivity of ±5 Gauss and enables continuous magnetic field detection without the duty-cycling typically used for power saving. With two independent channels and standard A/B quadrature outputs, it is suitable for smart utility metering, industrial position sensing, and motion control applications.
The TMR1228D offers an advantage over conventional Hall-effect switches, which often cycle their operation to conserve energy. MDT's TMR technology allows for continuous, uninterrupted detection at a power consumption as low as 1.5 microamperes per axis. This enhances response time and reliability in demanding scenarios.
Furthermore, the IC is designed for flexibility in mechanical configurations and magnetic circuit designs. A similar device, the TMR1222D with a higher sensitivity of ±17 Gauss, is available with the same package and pinout, expanding application possibilities.
