Medi Offers Solutions for Slipping Compression Stockings
German manufacturer Medi has released guidance on common issues with compression stockings, particularly the topband rolling or slipping. Problems can stem from incorrect sizing or skin irritation.

Bayreuth, Germany – medi GmbH & Co. KG, a manufacturer of medical compression stockings, has issued advice to address common user problems, especially concerning the "topband" or upper cuff of compression garments.
The company notes that a common issue is the topband rolling or slipping down the leg. According to Medi, this can occur if the topband is too small for the thigh's circumference or if the garment's overall tension is too high. For standard sizes, Medi advises users to consider the "normal" and "wide" options available for the topband circumference. For individuals who find standard sizes don't fit, Medi suggests alternatives such as a hip attachment or compression tights.
Skin irritation, redness, and itching under the topband are often attributed to a reaction to sweat and mechanical friction. Medi recommends adjusting the position of the topband as a primary solution. Ensuring even compression distribution along the leg is also highlighted as important to prevent the topband from pulling downwards. For sensitive skin, the company offers a specialized "Micro-nub Topband sensitive" option.
Proper care is emphasized for maintaining the stocking's function. Medi suggests daily wear and washing of compression stockings. To ensure the topband maintains its grip, gentle washing with detergents like "medi clean" is recommended. For enhanced support, the adhesive lotion "medi fix" can be used. Medi advises users to consult a doctor if they experience pressure marks, persistent irritation, or any deterioration in the stocking's condition.
The length of the compression stocking can also affect the fit of the topband. Medi advises against pulling the stocking too high towards the buttocks when putting it on, recommending a gap of at least two finger-widths between the top and bottom borders to prevent the topband from folding over due to pressure from the upper leg area.
