MediaTek introduced its new Genio 720 and Genio 520 chipsets at Embedded World in Nuremberg. These edge-AI IoT platforms are designed for smart home, retail, industrial, and commercial Internet of Things devices. They support the latest generative AI models, improving human-machine interface (HMI) and multimedia capabilities.

The new chipsets deliver significant processing power, up to 10 TOPS, and feature MediaTek's 8th-generation Neural Processing Unit (NPU). This provides hardware acceleration for transformer and convolutional neural network models. The Genio 720 and 520 also support up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, enabling efficient operation of large language models (LLM) directly on the device. Models such as Llama, Gemini, Phi, and DeepSeek benefit from faster data processing in edge applications.

Built on a 6nm process node, the chipsets integrate an octa-core CPU with two Arm Cortex-A78 and six Cortex-A55 cores. This configuration optimizes performance and power efficiency, making them suitable for battery-powered and fanless devices. MediaTek states these platforms enable a significantly faster development cycle and time-to-market.

MediaTek plans to showcase its Genio portfolio at the Embedded World trade fair from March 11-13, 2025. Sampling of the Genio 720 and 520 platforms is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2025.
