Despite clinical data demonstrating that modern radiotherapy is as effective as surgery for treating localized prostate cancer, the treatment remains underused across many European markets. Experts speaking at the 2026 ESTRO congress in Stockholm highlighted that while guidelines support radiotherapy, it is frequently bypassed in favor of surgery, often due to a lack of patient awareness regarding long-term quality-of-life benefits.

Recent long-term studies, including the PACE-A trial, indicate that high-precision radiotherapy—often delivered in just five sessions—preserves urinary and sexual function more effectively than robotic surgery in many cases. This shift in treatment modality removes the need for anesthesia and hospitalization, presenting a less invasive alternative for patients.

Micropos Medical, which develops the Raypilot precision technology, emphasized the need for closer collaboration between the medical community and the technology sector. According to company COO Hanna Syrén, the focus must remain on improving patient quality of life by ensuring that both clinicians and patients are fully informed of modern therapeutic options.
