MediciNova Reports Topline Results from MN-001-NATG-202 Trial
MediciNova has announced topline results from the MN-001-NATG-202 Phase 2 clinical trial evaluating MN-001 (tipelukast). The study focused on patients with type 2 diabetes associated with hypertriglyceridemia and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
La Jolla, Calif. – MediciNova, Inc. has announced topline results from MN-001-NATG-202, a Phase 2 clinical trial evaluating MN-001 (tipelukast) for the treatment of hypertriglyceridemia and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
The study enrolled 40 patients with NAFLD and hypertriglyceridemia associated with T2DM. Over the 24-week treatment period, the MN-001 group observed a statistically significant early reduction in serum triglycerides (at Week 4) and a statistically significant increase in HDL cholesterol and HDL particle concentration at 24 weeks. Additionally, numerical improvements in liver fat and body weight were noted.
The study indicated that MN-001 demonstrated a generally favorable safety and tolerability profile. Treatment-related adverse events were mild to moderate, and no serious adverse events related to the drug were reported.
These preliminary findings suggest that MN-001 may offer beneficial effects across several metabolic parameters. MediciNova will continue detailed analyses of the study data and assess the next stages of clinical development, including determining the appropriate patient population, endpoints, and sample size for a larger study.
