Meesho Faces FIR Over Alleged Sale Of Toxic Substance Linked To Minor's Death

Gurugram Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against e-commerce platform Meesho and one of its sellers. The action follows allegations that a highly toxic substance known as 'Sulfas', allegedly sold via Meesho, led to the death of a minor.

The FIR was filed based on a complaint by Anuradha Mehra, the mother of the deceased. Her 17-year-old son reportedly died on April 28 after consuming the poisonous substance. Police investigation revealed that the minor had allegedly ordered 'Sulfas' through the Meesho app on April 11.

According to police, the invoice identified Pankaj Bharatbhai Parmar, operator of Surat-based Evergreen Agro and Gardening Mall, as the seller. The mother discovered the order on her son's mobile phone after his death.

The FIR was registered on court orders at Badshahpur police station on August 19, under sections pertaining to causing death by negligence and negligent conduct involving poisonous substances. Police are investigating the online sale process and the seller's role, and Meesho representatives are expected to be questioned.

Meesho has faced scrutiny before. In 2022, Maharashtra FDA filed an FIR against the platform for allegedly selling MTP kits without prescriptions. In 2021, an FIR was registered against its founders over allegations of counterfeit goods being sold on the platform.
