Meller Optics, Inc. has introduced custom sapphire windows designed to protect the vision systems of drones. These windows are intended for drones used in firefighting and inspections of disaster areas, where exposure to high temperatures, flying debris, and chemicals is common.
The sapphire windows provide an optical barrier for cameras, thermal imagers, and sensors. The material features a Mohs hardness of 9 and offers efficient light transmission across UV to IR spectrums. The windows can withstand temperatures up to 1000°C and pressures of 10,000 psi, making them suitable for extreme conditions.
Manufactured to specification, the windows are available in various sizes and thicknesses, with tight tolerances for surface finish and flatness. Meller Optics provides these windows on a custom order basis to meet specific client requirements.
