Memorial Healthcare System Opens Douglas Road ER in Pembroke Pines

Memorial Healthcare System officially opened its new Douglas Road ER in Pembroke Pines, Florida, marking the transformation of its established 24/7 Care Center into an expanded emergency services facility. The ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the enhancement of high-level emergency care access for residents in both Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

The former Care Center had served the Pembroke Pines community for over 40 years. The new 30,000-square-foot freestanding emergency room, located at 801 S. Douglas Road, is set to open for public use in August 2026. It is designed to offer rapid emergency care for adults and children while remaining fully connected to Memorial Healthcare System's network of hospitals, specialists, and follow-up care services.

Douglas Road ER operates as a licensed emergency department of Memorial Hospital Pembroke, equipped with advanced diagnostics and resuscitation capabilities for both adults and pediatric patients. The facility includes 41 treatment spaces, featuring 18 private adult treatment rooms, four dedicated pediatric rooms, 16 fast-track rooms, and a trauma resuscitation room. It also provides 24-hour CT scans, X-rays, ultrasound, and an on-site laboratory to support efficient emergency evaluations.

Shane Strum, interim CEO of Memorial Healthcare System, stated that the expansion is part of a long-term strategy to bolster the system's emergency care network. The approximately $52 million investment aims to provide necessary healthcare infrastructure for the growing South Florida population. This new ER, along with the Memorial Healthcare System Red Road ER, is projected to serve over 32,850 patients annually, alleviating congestion at existing facilities.
