Memorial Hospital Miramar NICU Babies Participate in 'Wild About Reading' Event
Memorial Hospital Miramar hosted its seventh annual Read-A-Thon on its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The event encourages parents to read to their babies to promote development and bonding.

Memorial Hospital Miramar celebrated its seventh annual Babies with Books Read-A-Thon on its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This year's "Wild About Reading" theme saw five NICU babies dressed in jungle-themed costumes, including a lion, zebra, monkey, and giraffes.
The event aims to foster early language and brain development by encouraging parents to read aloud to their infants. It also provides families with moments of joy and a meaningful way to engage in their baby's care during a stressful hospital stay.
Participants highlighted the profound impact of reading. One parent described the experience as bringing "light" during a difficult NICU journey. Healthcare providers emphasized that even 20 minutes of daily reading can make a significant difference and strengthen the parent-child connection.
Memorial Hospital Miramar has participated in the Read-A-Thon since its inception in 2020. The initiative has grown nationwide, with nearly 250 NICUs now participating. Last year, over 73,000 reading sessions were recorded during the event's 11-day period.
