Memory Chip Stocks Rally as AI Optimism Returns
Memory chip stocks experienced a significant rebound in late July, reversing previous weak performance. Companies like Micron Technology and Sandisk saw their share prices surge.

Memory chip stocks rallied significantly in the week ending July 31, reversing earlier weak performance. Companies including Micron Technology and Samsung Electronics saw their share prices strengthen. South Korea's Kospi index recovered strongly, led by turnarounds in Samsung and SK Hynix.
American semiconductor manufacturers, including Micron Technology and Western Digital's Sandisk Corporation, followed suit with similar share price increases. Despite these boosts, they did not fully compensate for month-long declines.
The recent upswing is largely attributed to strong earnings reports from tech giants Microsoft, Amazon, and Lam Research. These companies exceeded expectations, partly due to robust cloud service growth, signaling continued strong chip demand. Amazon Web Services (AWS), for instance, increased its net sales by 37%.
Microsoft's Azure cloud service surpassed $100 billion in revenue for the first time, and its Microsoft 365 Copilot reached over 30 million paid seats. Lam Research reported a revenue increase of over 15% from the previous quarter, citing AI-driven demand reshaping the semiconductor industry.
