Men More Likely to Consult AI for Pay Advice
A recent survey indicates men are more inclined to use AI for salary negotiations and pay raise advice compared to women, potentially widening the gender pay gap.

A new report highlights significant gender disparities in the adoption and utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace, particularly concerning compensation and career advancement. The findings suggest men are more likely to use AI tools for salary negotiations and pay raise advice than their female counterparts.
While AI chatbot usage rates between men and women have converged, men continue to use these tools more frequently at work. The survey reveals that 63% of men have used AI for pay advice, compared to 42% of women. Furthermore, 59% of men stated they would consult AI on salary expectations or raise requests, while 44% of women reported the same.
Men also expressed a greater general trust in AI-generated advice. Approximately 57% of men indicated they would trust AI advice as much as human advice, versus 43% of women. The report warns that this imbalance could perpetuate existing gender pay gaps and hinder women's ability to negotiate compensation effectively.
Notably, the survey found that 76% of respondents were unaware that AI could provide biased career advice, despite research showing AI chatbots may recommend lower salaries to women and people of color. Young women were the least surprised by this potential bias, reflecting broader concerns that women may harbor about AI's ethical implications and perceived threats to their careers.
