Mercedes-AMG debuts battery-powered GT 4-Door Coupe to address EV weight

Mercedes-Benz has launched its first all-electric AMG-branded sports car, the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. The vehicle is engineered to address the performance limitations often caused by the heavy weight of electric vehicle battery packs, which can impede cornering and overall agility.

The car features the new AMG.EA sports-car architecture, which manages power distribution across three electric motors. This system integrates with Active Ride Control suspension and active aerodynamics to maintain vehicle stability. Additionally, the vehicle includes rear-axle steering capable of turning up to six degrees, which assists in managing the vehicle's momentum during high-speed maneuvers.

This release marks a shift for the Affalterbach-based brand as it integrates its high-performance standards into an electric powertrain. The company claims that through constant adjustment of power and suspension settings, the vehicle is capable of track-ready performance despite its electric-first design.
