Mercedes-AMG to Unveil New Electric SUV on October 17

Mercedes-AMG is set to introduce its first SUV built on a dedicated electric vehicle architecture, codenamed X591, on October 17. Spy shots of a prototype reveal a design that blends coupe-like styling with SUV practicality, featuring a flowing roofline and prominent shoulder lines.

The new electric SUV will utilize the AMG.EA platform and an 800-volt electrical system, incorporating axial flux motors developed by Yasa and F1-inspired battery cooling technology. Performance is anticipated to be a key focus, with potential for the range-topping variant to produce up to 860 kW (1169 hp) and 2000 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in approximately 2.5 seconds. Dual-motor versions are also expected.

Distinctive lighting elements, including Y-shaped LEDs at the front and circular taillights, are expected to enhance its visual identity. The interior is likely to mirror the multi-screen layout of the AMG GT four-door coupe, but with increased space for occupants and cargo. Mercedes-AMG is also developing its AMGFORCE S+ system to provide a driving experience that mimics internal combustion engine characteristics, including simulated V8 exhaust sounds.

Further technical features will include AMG Active Ride Control air suspension with semi-active roll stabilization and a rear-axle steering system. Charging is expected to be rapid, with the potential for DC fast charging speeds of up to 600 kW, enabling approximately 460 km of range from a 10-minute charge. The launch date coincides with the 140th anniversary of Karl Benz's patent for the world's first automobile.
