Automaker Mercedes-Benz will substantially streamline its vehicle lineup, with a significant focus on its electric offerings. At least three fully electric models are slated for discontinuation after the 2027 model year, confirmed by a Mercedes spokesperson to Car and Driver.

The EQE sedan and its AMG variant, along with the Maybach EQS 680 SUV, are set to exit the product range. The discontinuation of the EQE sedan marks a relatively short lifecycle for the model, which was initially positioned as the electric counterpart to the E-Class. Its necessity diminishes with the introduction of the electric CLA and the upcoming electric C-Class.

The high-performance AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE, which utilizes a V8 engine combined with plug-in hybrid technology, will also cease production. Despite this, Mercedes-Benz continues to develop its AMG combustion engines, stating that V8 performance models will not disappear in the short term.

Additionally, the Maybach EQS 680 SUV, previously the brand's most luxurious electric vehicle, will be phased out. While Mercedes-Benz anticipates future electric Maybach models, they are not expected to be part of the distinct EQ model series. The automaker's strategy involves consolidating its offerings to focus on future electric mobility.

This move indicates a strategic shift for Mercedes-Benz, aiming to simplify its portfolio and concentrate resources on developing its next generation of electric vehicles while maintaining its commitment to performance combustion engines.
