Mesabi Metallics Begins Ore Extraction in Minnesota

Mesabi Metallics Company LLC has completed its first production blast at its Nashwauk, Minnesota site, marking a transition from the mine's construction phase to its production phase. This milestone is part of the company's plan to establish the first new iron ore mine and pellet plant in the United States in over fifty years on Minnesota's Iron Range.

The blast used a 66-hole pattern, breaking approximately 211,000 tons of ore. The event opened the first ramp to the pit floor, allowing 400-ton mining haul trucks to begin transporting ore. The company anticipates commencing pellet production during the third quarter.

Mesabi Metallics CEO Joe Broking emphasized that each ton of ore extracted represents American jobs and investments. The company aims to reduce US dependence on foreign ore supplies with its high-quality 'Patriot Pellet' brand, produced entirely on the Iron Range.

The project represents an investment of approximately $2.5 billion and is expected to yield high-quality DR pellets. These pellets are part of a broader effort to bring critical steel supply chains and industrial production back to the United States.
