Meta Ads Featured App Promising Deepfaked Nude Content of Female Politicians

Meta platforms recently hosted advertisements for an artificial intelligence application named Kromix, which reportedly allowed users to generate deepfaked sexual content, including depictions of female politicians. This incident highlights ongoing challenges Meta faces in preventing advertisements for tools that create nonconsensual intimate imagery from appearing on its services.

One advertisement, described by WIRED, promoted Kromix as an "AI image styler" with "no restrictions" and suggested it was "the AI that men actually use." The ad featured a person resembling a prominent female U.S. politician in scenarios that transitioned to explicit content, accompanied by suggestive captions.

The Kromix application, which was available on Apple's App Store before WIRED's inquiry, reportedly offered features allowing paid users to upload images for use in various scenarios, including those described as "bedroom rape." Further promotional material indicated the app included AI-generated pornography.

Efforts to reach contacts listed for the Kromix app for comment were unsuccessful. The presence of such advertisements on Meta's platform raises concerns about the effectiveness of content moderation policies concerning sexually explicit and potentially harmful generated media.
