Meta AI Chief Wang: First Startup Details, Meta Focus on Talent
Alexandr Wang, head of Meta's AI division, advises founders to handle details personally in their first venture, then shift to recruiting talent at large organizations like Meta.
Alexandr Wang, founder of Scale AI and current Chief AI Officer at Meta Platforms Inc., shared insights on entrepreneurship during a recent podcast appearance. He advised first-time founders to immerse themselves in every detail of their initial venture before learning to delegate.
Wang explained that while this hands-on approach was crucial for Scale AI's success, it eventually made him a bottleneck. "A founder needs to form a clear judgment on every detail of the business and personally control the execution process," he stated.
Upon joining Meta to lead the new Superintelligent Labs, Wang adopted a different management strategy. Recognizing his limitations as neither an AI researcher nor a product designer, he shifted his focus to building a strong team.
"Instead of deciding the specifics of every task, I focus heavily on building an excellent team," Wang said. He aims to recruit top talent and empower them to shape product and research directions, fostering innovation within Meta's large-scale operations.
