NEW YORK โ€“ October 16, 2026 โ€“ Meta and Apple have initiated a collaboration to run Meta's new open-source AI model, Muse Spark Open, locally on Apple's Mac Studio hardware. This partnership signifies a rare instance of public cooperation between the two technology giants, who have historically had differing approaches in areas such as business, privacy, and product ecosystems.

Muse Spark Open is designed for complex tasks including programming, agent-based operations, and software engineering, boasting 816 billion parameters. The demonstration utilized two Mac Studio units equipped with the M5 Ultra chip and 512GB of unified memory each. The model was executed using Apple's MLX framework.

Both Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Apple's Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies, John Ternus, confirmed the collaboration on social media platforms. Ternus highlighted the Mac Studio's role in pushing the boundaries of on-device AI capabilities, while Zuckerberg noted the model's strong performance on the new Mac Studio.

The setup for running Muse Spark Open locally on Mac Studio involves high-end hardware. The 512GB Mac Studio models are expected to launch later this month, with pricing for comparable configurations exceeding $10,000 USD.
