Meta developing multiple next-generation VR headsets
Meta Technologies has confirmed it is developing multiple next-generation virtual reality (VR) devices. The company is undergoing adjustments to ensure a more sustainable operational state in its VR pursuits.

Meta Technologies, formerly Facebook, is actively developing several next-generation virtual reality (VR) headsets, according to statements made by Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth. Bosworth indicated that further details may be revealed at the upcoming Meta Connect conference, suggesting continued investment in the VR sector despite recent operational adjustments.
Bosworth explicitly denied any intention of abandoning the VR market when questioned about the company's commitment. He affirmed that Meta will continue to allocate substantial resources to its virtual reality division, emphasizing the company's ongoing dedication to the technology. "We are making adjustments to make the company more sustainable, that is true. But we are not giving up, and we will continue to invest heavily in this space," Bosworth stated.
Previous reports have suggested Meta is working on a gaming-focused headset, positioned as a significant upgrade from the current Quest 3. However, this device is expected to come without hardware price subsidies, leading to a higher retail cost for consumers.
Furthermore, leaks indicate development of an ultra-lightweight mixed reality (MR) headset featuring a tethered external compute module. This more advanced device is potentially slated for release in early 2027. Meta's sustained efforts signal a long-term strategy within the evolving VR and MR landscape.
