Meta Enters AI Coding Market to Challenge OpenAI and Anthropic
Meta has unveiled an updated AI model, Muse Spark 1.1, and announced pricing aimed at competing with rivals in the artificial intelligence coding sector.

Meta is making a significant move into the artificial intelligence coding market with the release of an updated AI model, Muse Spark 1.1, and accompanying pricing designed to be competitive.
The company's AI chief, Alexandr Wang, described the new model as Meta's "strongest model for agentic and coding work yet." This release positions Meta to compete directly with established players like OpenAI and Anthropic in a crucial segment of the AI industry.
Muse Spark 1.1's API is now available to developers through a public preview, with new users able to join a waitlist. Meta is currently limiting API access to its own properties, eschewing third-party marketplaces for the time being.
This launch comes as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg faces pressure to demonstrate returns on the company's substantial investments in AI. Despite these investments, Meta has lagged behind rivals such as OpenAI and Google in deploying popular AI models and applications.
The pricing for Muse Spark 1.1 includes $20 in free credits for new API accounts. Subsequent usage will be charged at $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens, a structure intended to scale with consumption.
Meta claims that Muse Spark 1.1 has outperformed rival models in specific coding-related tasks. The company aims to enhance the capabilities of AI agents by integrating robust coding functionalities, enabling them to perform complex tasks autonomously.
