Meta is set to hire Dave Brown, a senior executive from Amazon Web Services (AWS), to spearhead its data center construction. Brown, who possesses nearly two decades of industry experience, is expected to join Meta in the coming weeks and will report to the head of infrastructure. Brown's departure from AWS was confirmed by AWS CEO Matt Garman in an internal memo.

This hire comes as Meta is reportedly planning a new cloud infrastructure business aimed at offering AI computing power and model access to external clients. While not yet officially launched, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has previously stated that offering computing power externally could become an option if Meta's own capacity exceeds its needs.

The move aligns with Meta's significant investments in its infrastructure. The company recently announced an expansion of its data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana, to 5 GW, representing a total investment of over $50 billion.

Meta's strategic focus on infrastructure and potential entry into the cloud market could position it to compete with established cloud providers and leverage its vast computing resources for AI development and external services.
