Meta Introduces Always-On AI Agent Muse
Meta has unveiled the Muse Charm, a keychain-sized device representing its Muse AI agent. The agent is designed to perform tasks autonomously and integrate with user applications.

Meta is intensifying its focus on developing always-on AI agents capable of autonomously handling everyday tasks. The company recently showcased the Muse Charm, a keychain-sized device featuring a small screen and an animated avatar representing its AI agent, Muse.
Users can interact with the device to communicate with Muse and assign it tasks. Unlike previous interactive toys that demanded constant attention, Muse is engineered to operate without continuous user oversight. It can integrate with users' applications and services to send emails, fill forms, make plans, and even execute purchases without explicit, step-by-step commands.
This development mirrors efforts by other tech giants, including OpenAI with its Dots agent and xAI with Grok Bot, to create AI agents that function across applications and pursue goals independently. The broader aim is to shift the burden of completing entire workflows from employees to AI.
These continuously operating agents differ from traditional AI tools by their ability to act independently towards a set goal, even after a user logs off. They operate on cloud servers, learning from user preferences and feedback. However, companies still require user approval for sensitive actions.
A significant risk associated with these agents lies in their potential to act with minimal or no intervention. Access to company systems grants them the ability to cause substantial financial, operational, or security incidents. Reports of agents performing erroneous or unauthorized actions highlight the critical need for robust security protocols and accountability frameworks.
