Meta Introduces Camera-Free AI Glasses
Meta has unveiled its new camera-free Ray-Ban Meta Audio smart glasses. The devices focus on audio capabilities like music playback and calls, addressing privacy concerns.
Meta announced its first camera-free AI glasses, the Ray-Ban Meta Audio collection, at its Connect 2026 conference on Wednesday. The new glasses are designed to address criticism surrounding potential misuse of AI eyewear, such as unauthorized recording.
The devices are audio-focused, enabling users to listen to music and podcasts, take calls, translate speech, and interact with Meta's AI assistant, Muse. Developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, the glasses will start at $349.
Through this camera-free model, Meta aims to improve its smart glasses brand's reputation. Previously, the devices faced criticism for enabling covert recording and privacy violations. While Meta had attempted to mitigate these issues with software updates, eliminating the camera fundamentally addresses a core privacy risk.
The new Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses offer a battery life of up to 12 hours, a significant increase compared to previous models. This extended usage time supports all-day wear without the need for constant recharging.
