Meta Launches Facebook Verified Badge to Combat Fake Accounts
Meta has introduced "Facebook Verified," a new service that provides a verification badge to users after they confirm their identity. The initiative aims to combat the proliferation of AI-generated fake accounts.

Meta has rolled out its new "Facebook Verified" service, which grants a distinct badge to users who successfully confirm their identity. This program is available to individuals aged 18 and older who adhere to Meta's community standards and have no history of fraudulent activity. The verification process involves users recording a selfie video, which Meta then uses to verify their identity.
The primary objective behind this feature is to ensure that genuine users are behind the accounts, thereby mitigating the risk posed by AI-generated fake profiles. Meta stated that this verification badge will enhance the authenticity and trustworthiness of interactions on its platforms.
The verified badge will be visible on user profiles, as well as in groups and on marketplace listings. Currently, the badge is exclusive to personal accounts and does not extend to Facebook Pages or professional accounts. Meta plans a phased rollout of this feature, with intentions for a global expansion in the future.
In related news, Meta also announced the launch of a "Seller" app, specifically designed for frequent Facebook Marketplace users. This app provides tools for creating product listings, managing communications, and analyzing performance.
