Meta Partners with Fourier Intelligence on Humanoid Robotics Research

Meta is collaborating with Chinese robotics firm Fourier Intelligence to develop a humanoid prototype named Max, citing supply chain challenges as a factor in its research strategy.

Meta has partnered with China-based Fourier Intelligence to develop 'Max,' a humanoid robot designed to serve as a physical embodiment for the company’s Muse artificial intelligence model. The project aims to explore robotic utility in tasks such as household chores.

The prototype, which stands approximately 1.5 meters tall and weighs 48 kilograms, is equipped with Nvidia Thor chips. Development of the first unit took three months, and teams are currently working on a second iteration, Max 2, which features a redesigned torso.

Meta confirmed the collaboration follows challenges in sourcing components domestically in the United States. A company spokesperson indicated that these supply chain constraints are shared across the robotics industry. While development continues, Meta stated there are no plans to commercialize or sell the current prototypes, emphasizing that the project remains focused on internal research.
