Meta Pauses Fee for Smart Glasses' "Conversation Focus" Feature After User Backlash
Meta has halted plans to charge a monthly subscription fee for its smart glasses' "Conversation Focus" feature following strong user opposition. The feature amplifies voices and reduces background noise for clearer conversations.

Meta has recently paused its plans to charge a monthly subscription fee for the "Conversation Focus" feature on its smart glasses. This decision follows significant user backlash that emerged after the company's initial announcement of the fee.
The "Conversation Focus" feature aims to enhance speech clarity by utilizing the smart glasses' built-in microphone array and artificial intelligence. Its purpose is to amplify the speaker's voice while reducing ambient background noise, making conversations easier to hear and understand.
Meta has confirmed that the planned fee structure has been suspended. A company spokesperson, Tyler Yee, stated that the feature will be made available for free through an "early access program" in the interim, pending the development of better solutions.
Criticism also arose regarding the stipulation that even paying users would be limited to 15 hours of "Conversation Focus" per month. Some consumers speculated this indicated server costs associated with the service, but subsequent user tests have demonstrated that the feature functions entirely without an internet connection.
