Meta to invest over $50 billion in Louisiana data center
Meta has announced that its planned Hyperion data center supercluster in Louisiana will now cost over $50 billion. This represents a significant increase from the initial $27 billion estimate revealed in October 2025.
Meta announced it will increase its investment in the planned Hyperion data center supercluster in Richland Parish, Louisiana, to over $50 billion. The facility is set to become Meta's largest data center with a planned capacity of 5 gigawatts (GW).
This expansion significantly raises the initial projection of $27 billion, which was disclosed in October 2025 when Meta and Blue Owl Capital formed a joint venture for the data center's development and management. The original plan involved a 2GW facility.
Louisiana is offering substantial tax rebates and energy deals to attract major technology firms, aligning with a national trend of states competing for AI-related investments. Governor Jeff Landry signed a 20-year sales tax exemption into law in late 2024 for data centers built before 2029, a move intended to secure Meta's project.
The company stated it will cover all costs associated with the data center's energy, water, and related infrastructure, ensuring consumers are not affected. Meta reported that local businesses in Louisiana have already secured over $1.6 billion in contracts during the initial construction phases. Additionally, Meta plans to invest over $1 billion in local infrastructure improvements, including roads and water/wastewater systems.
